Chile is globally recognized as a safe, reliable country that is committed to excellence in food production. Our unique geographic location, combined with a culture of innovation, responsibility, and respect for international standards, makes us a strategic partner for the most demanding markets.
The sustainable growth and global reach of the Chilean pork industry is based on three fundamental pillars:
Thanks to its status as a natural “island” of biosecurity and stringent control protocols, Chile offers meat products that are free of major animal diseases, thus protecting trading partners and consumers.
With a vertically integrated production model and 100% traceability, we ensure that every piece of Chilean pork meets the highest safety and quality standards.
Through circular economy, technological innovations, and a strong commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we guarantee responsible production, protection for natural resources, and the well-being of future generations.
Chile is a veritable sanctuary of biosecurity. Naturally protected by the formidable Atacama Desert, the vast Patagonia, the majestic Andes Mountains, and the immense Pacific Ocean, our country is often compared to a natural island, which shields its food production from the major global health threats.
Thanks to its privileged geography, Chile is free of diseases that seriously impact the global pork industry, such as African swine fever (ASF) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS). This unique status allows us to provide safe, reliable, and high-quality products.
But we do not rest solely on our natural advantages. The Chilean pork industry, in close collaboration with the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) —an internationally recognized health authority— has implemented stringent biosecurity protocols at all production stages, both in industrial facilities and small-scale farms. We also have robust emergency plans ready to respond immediately and effectively in the event of a health alert.
Our culture of prevention extends to the country’s points of entry: We actively support SAG’s work at Chile’s borders, donating dogs trained to detect potentially hazardous products at Santiago International Airport. This collaboration helps us prevent the entry of health threats, one of the main global risks.
The industry also leads the BIO REP program, which is designed to minimize the risk of diseases spread via animal feed and supplies. As part of this commitment, 100% of inputs from ASF-positive countries must comply with a strict 60 to 90-day waiting period before being used.
Finally, thinking ahead, we are driving negotiations to establish health zoning protocols with strategic markets such as Japan, South Korea, and China, thus ensuring the continuity of Chilean exports in the event of any health challenges.
In Chile, we work every day to maintain your trust.
In Chile, food safety is not just a promise, it’s a verifiable fact. Every piece of pork that we export reflects our deep commitment to quality and safety at every stage of the process.
Chilean pork is produced under the highest international standards, thanks to a unique production model: All ChilePork member companies have a fully vertically integrated system. It means that they have direct control over every phase, from feed formulation and rearing to slaughter and sale of the final product.
This structure guarantees:
As part of our commitment to food safety, the Chilean pork industry also implements a Comprehensive Dioxin Control Program, which strictly monitors animal feed inputs and final products. From 2008 to 2024, we’ve conducted 10,000+ screenings of meat and raw materials. Thanks to this ongoing surveillance:
Choosing Chilean pork means choosing safety, quality, and peace of mind for your consumers.
Sustainability is embedded into the core of the Chilean pork industry and its growth. We are growing in volume and quality, always respecting our natural resources, with a model based on circular economy and cutting-edge technology innovations.
The results speak for themselves:
Water efficiency: Between 2003 and 2023, we reduced water consumption per animal by 69%, optimizing the use of this essential resource.
Slurry treatment: 82% of our facilities use advanced technologies such as biodigesters, activated sludge plants, and vermifilters to transform waste into high-value biofertilizers for agriculture.
Emissions reduction: Between 2000 and 2024, we managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per animal by 24%, actively contributing to the fight against climate change.
We are also part of the Chile Conscious Origin program, an internationally recognized sustainability standard that aligns our practices to the UN’s 17 SDGs for 2030. By 2024, 118 pig farms were certified, representing 77% of the country’s pork industry.
